Notes: PVC consumption estimates are based on supply/demand for PVC resins in the United States or North America (U.S and Canada). PVC consumption was determined by adding production plus imports less exports. Data from 1966 to 1990 are based on annual U.S. PVC consumption estimates from the 1993 Chemical Economics Handbook (CEH 1993). The U.S. estimates for 1995 and 2000 are based on 90% of North American consumption data for those years. We conservatively assumed that 90% of the North American PVC consumption in 1995 and 2000 was attributable to the U.S. since 92% of the North American PVC consumption generated in 2002 was attributable to the U.S. and 8% to Canada (CEH 2003). The estimates for 2005 and 2007 were based on a projected growth rate of 3% per year for the period 2002 to 2007 (CEH 2003).
